Mental Health Treatment

True Life Center understands that there is a connection between the emotions, thoughts, and physical state of an individual. Through neurobiological integration, we help our clients embrace this connection as they work through our IOP or PHP. We utilize a multi-disciplinary therapeutic model to help our clients get the most of their treatment with us. When clients come to us with mental health disorders like anxiety or depression, our doctors work to rewire their responses to stressors.

We Treat Substance Use Disorder

Addiction and mental health issues are often intertwined. Some of the most commonly abused drugs are actually prescription drugs. Among them, opioids, central nervous system depressants, and stimulants are the most commonly abused prescription drugs. Some brand-name examples of these drugs include Vicodin, OxyContin, Valium, Xanax, Adderall, and Ritalin. While we also treat many of the “conventional” drugs like alcohol, cocaine, and meth, a majority of rehab patients are in treatment for opiate abuse.

Opioid Addiction Treatment

Many of the most commonly abused prescription drugs fall into the opioid category. Vicodin and OxyContin are probably two of the most well-known drugs in this category. Hydrocodone, brand name Vicodin, is the most common prescription opioid painkiller in America. Not only is it useful for pain but also as a cough suppressant.

Vicodin contains not only the semi-synthetic opioid of hydrocodone but also acetaminophen, which makes it very harmful to the liver when abused. Fentanyl has recently become a significant problem. It’s typically used in hospital settings to treat people who already have a high tolerance to opioids. Fentanyl is extremely potent and can lead to overdoses in people who have not already built a tolerance. How dangerous is it? To compare, it’s 50 times as potent as heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.

Stimulant Addiction Treatment

Other substances for which people seek treatment fall into the stimulant and central nervous system or CNS depressant category. These drugs can treat a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and others. People who use drugs such as Valium, Xanax, and Zoloft are usually struggling with anxiety and panic disorders. However, the calming effects of these drugs may cause people to become dependent on them, often by taking more than the prescribed dosage.

On the other side of the spectrum are drugs that stimulate the nervous system rather than depress it. One of the most common is the amphetamine Adderall. It enhances cognition and even improves athletic performance. Like CNS depressant drugs, it has legitimate uses as a prescription drug, but the harm comes when people abuse it to stay up all night studying, or to do better athletically.

Ritalin is another prescription drug that does essentially the same thing as Adderall and can be abused in the same way. Fortunately, True Life’s addiction treatment programs place a focus on these issues.
